Of All The Sunshiny Things…

I’ll admit it’s been a while. May does this to people. I simply lose all motivation to blog during May. Is it the heat? Or maybe a mental block? At any rate, with no more school to attend, I risk becoming a caveperson surviving on guttural noises to communicate if I don’t keep my writing up (… there. I’ve already forgotten what my gender’s called. See my point?)

With June having set in, I have no excuses anymore. As extra motivation, it’s begun to rain! It started with a strong—and very cool—breeze, and barely twenty minutes in, I’m on my first draft in a month. The things the weather can do!

I’m out to do something that’s been on my agenda for a long time. I’ve been nominated for a Sunshine Blogger Award by the awesome Shreya Madhusudan! She’s absolutely crazy about books, which is always a good thing in my books (see what I did there?), and her blog’s all about them! Catch her over on her blog bookwormtopia.wordpress.com.

I’m tempted to reuse this wonderful piece of footage for my thank you speech.
I also find my nomination a bit ironic, because if anything, I should be nominated for a Dark As Pitch Black Despair award for all everyone has to put up with around me. But I don’t argue with it, I jump straight to the meaty content ahead!

The rules of this award are,

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the sunshine blogger award logo in your post/or on your blog.

So, been there, doing that! Here go the questions, and my answers (cracks knuckles, stretches neck muscles, realises that was excessive).

1. If you were stranded on an island, which book would you have with you (clichéd, but couldn’t help)?

Any book by Robert Ludlum would do, I’m not even particular. To write like that guy is a very high ideal for me to achieve as a writer!

2. If you had a time machine/turner, where would you go?

Bwahahahahahahha, karma screws. My answer remains the same, though: I’d go back to the nineties for the alt rock movement in America. Nirvana was long gone by the time I came around.

3. What is your message to a person who thinks books are for ‘boring, nerdy’ people (you’re allowed to be candid and rude)?

Hmmm… one part of me thinks them being cursed for life with shitty movie versions is satisfying enough. Another part of me sees heavy lightning outside my window right now and is getting… bad ideas. Nevermind me.

4. Are you more of a social butterfly or a little bit introverted?

“little” introverted?? This is a joke!
But seriously, I can talk when I have to… I think.

5. Favourite song on your playlist now.

Well, I’d normally cheat and say I’m listening to anything Muse, and that would be my favourite, but since you’re asking for what I’m listening to right now (and I’m liking it too), it’ll be Nightlife by Green Day.
Please don’t judge me.
(runs away and hides)

6. One dream spot you would like to visit (can be fictional too).

I’d really really like to go to New Zealand. I’d normally have had a conflict between there and Chennai, but I was there last week. And four years ago. Not that I’d mind going again!

7. Your comfort food.

Ice cream! Although, my stomach begs to differ.

8. Favourite ice-cream flavour : D

Butterscotch, any day!

9. Dark chocolate or milk chocolate?

Orange chocolate! (I’m cheating)

10. Your favourite joke.

Am I allowed to say, “My life”? (although, that’s more of an answer for “the biggest joke”…)

And that’s about me!

Now my nominations, who really brighten up my WordPress reads.

  1. Sam
  2. Melody
  3. Non-Euclidean Sofa
  4. Bennettoblog
  5. Tonysbologna
  6. The Comic Vault
  7. Bunny
  8. Old Time Rock And Roll
  9. Kiwissoar
  10. MyStoriesWithMusic

Eleven questions from me, let the survey begin! (laughs evilly and then remembers 10 or so yet-unpublished surveys…)

  1. Which season do you prefer?
  2. What gets you out of bed every morning?
  3. (I’m stealing this question) What are you currently listening to?
  4. What’s a song you always skip but can’t quite see yourself deleting from your playlist?
  5. Harmonicas or saxophones?
  6. One random thing about you would be…
  7. How’d you rather spend a vacation?
  8. Would you rather have unlimited food (something you like to eat) or unlimited sleep hours?
  9. Who would you rather invaded the planet?
  10. Your dream prom dress?
  11. If tonight was your last night on earth…

Have a nice June!

Liebster Award!

Wow. Just a few days ago, I got to know, well, whaddya know, I’ve been nominated for a Liebster award! Wow! Yass! Thanks so much to the One who nominated me: Riya!  (Why The One? I’m just obsessed with the Matrix.)

Well, I tell you true, I’m excited. I spent the last tree days thinking of an amazing thank you speech. Kidding. I spent the last three days learning how to torch papers. Kidding too. I spent the last three days trying to figure out what to put in a test paper. (And, as I’m learning from the experiences of others, that something isn’t a business card.)

So, the rules of this award are that you need to thank your nominator (if that’s a word), answer the questions they’ve asked, throw in some random facts about yourself, then nominate some others and ask them some questions! (… Half a minute there. I do that all the time… Imagine the horror: “so first, it was one in a week, now we need to do ten at a go?!” Oh, dear.)

Now, the questions posted to me (and I already know how many people like this idea: survey the surveyor, hell yes!):

1. Do you believe there is something like true love in a world like ours today?

– Totally. Look at all the egotists  around. True love? I’d think so.

2. How inspiring do you think your life is till today?

– Someone once told me they’d been inspired by me to try their hand at stand up comedy. That’s it for short-lived inspiration! Long term, I’m still working on it, but I really want to  leave a mark on the world… you know, the big, long, clichéd story.

3. Do you believe in second chances?

– Yes. And I believe even if you hate someone, they deserve a second chance. But just once.

4. Favourite Food?

– Brownies. Or chocolate chip cookies.

5. One city/country you want to visit before you die?

The U.K. Especially if it’s ever going to be anything like it was in the 70’s! (I once had a survey question very similar to this… Karma screws.)

6. Do you think Mumbai is too hyped as a city? (considering the popularity the city has)

– Yep. Try living in Chennai.
Though Mumbai’s a mix of surprisingly nice and surprisingly callous people. And potholes.

7. Dogs or Cats?

– Cats.

8. Books or their film / TV series adaptations? Why?

– Books. I have the patience. Explains it all.

9. Who’s your favourite Stand up comedian and why?

I don’t really have one.

10. Favourite sport?

– Cricket, obviously! … Love basketball too.

What’s your main motivation to continue blogging?

– I have a very impulsive nature. Even a day before a big test paper, if I feel an argument coming on strongly, I simply have to write it down. I suppose inadvertently, it keeps me going!

Now, the random facts about me.

1. Dream rig set up: A Mirror Manson plugged into an Orange amp going through a Digitech Whammy pitch shifter pedal. And a Johnny Marr signature Stratocaster. (IF THEY EVER MAKE THAT MODEL AVAILABLE LEFT HANDED.)

2. I have a weird goal in life: I want to, just once, be mistaken for the opposite gender.

3. I once began reading a book at 11:30 pm (on my phone, no less) and didn’t stop till 4:50 am, where I dragged myself away and kept away from any screens for two days. (Or was it one?)

4. I detest most forms of fan fiction.

5. (Most people who know me know this anyway, but) I’m very awkward with hugs.

6. The most relatable song I have ever heard in my life is Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse.

7. Dave Grohl had once said, “There was an Ozzfest in England in 1998, and Korn canceled. So we got the call. It was Slayer, Pantera and Black Sabbath. We had to go on after Pantera. I was so terrified: ‘There’s gonna be a riot. I’m gonna get drawn and quartered. No one’s going to like our band.’

But we played, and I looked to the side. The guys from Pantera are watching us and singing the lyrics to our songs. Afterwards we made friends with Pantera. I was nervous and scared; I didn’t think I fit in. But they were so open to us. That backstage hospitality we try to have – it all came from Pantera. [Guitarist] Dimebag Darrell was the nicest fucking guy in the world. He could walk in and do a shot of Crown Royal with Justin Bieber, with Rick Nielsen, with James Brown – he was everybody’s best friend. And you could feel that energy when he was playing.

After that day, I was like, ‘From now on, everybody’s allowed in this room. I don’t care if it’s Britney Spears.’ I became the backstage best friend. Whenever I showed up at a festival, the first thing I’d do is grab a bottle of whiskey and go knocking on doors to see who the funniest people are. You’d be surprised who the real fucking nutcases are.”

I’m not quite there yet, but I’m learning!

8. I don’t believe in religion. I believe God is a pure form of energy that’s all around, and I do believe in that.

9. I love blues and greens. (And Green Day too. 🙂 )

10. Back in my old school, my super-messed up hair got more attention than me. It had nicknames too. I am not divulging into that.

11. I act a lot on impulse. The very way I started my blog was impulsive. I had nothing to do and felt like a complete waste, so I thought, why not do something to keep myself occupied? The rest, as most know, is long, answer-chasing history. It’s also got me in trouble.

12. I once left my guitar with a random girl in school. My friend freaked out about it more than me; I only realised it when my buddy pointed out how it could slip and fall and break get damaged. I did take it back… hey.

Well, that’s it about me! I don’t know too many other bloggers, but I do know some fairly decent ones, who’d I’d nominate:

1. Andy

2. Nirmiti

3. Terry

The questions I’d want to ask are: (before I begin: are you asking me; I’m a surveyor, I do this every week; I could go on all day, okay I’ll stop. Now we’ve got that out of the way! 😛 )

1. Do little things in life inspire you?

2. If you could, would you rather learn an art or a sport?

3. History: timeline details and events, or psychology of a timeline?

4. A quote/lyric/dialogue/saying that you can completely relate you:

5. What got you to start blogging, and what keeps you going?

6. City life or town life?

7. TV shows or movies?

8. Favourite genre? (Whether it be movies or music you prefer)

9. Any place in the universe you would want to live in:

10. If you were the only person left on Earth post-apocalypse, what’s the first thing you’d do?

11. Someone you have to meet once in your life:

Cheers and posts,

Matt.
